Train With Us
We naturally place a major focus on those training for and competing in triathlons. That said, we have many members who do the individual disciplines too – everyone is welcome whether you are a triathlete or just interested in only swimming, cycling, or running.
Within the Club we have a great depth and breadth of triathlon experience and use this to help direct members towards events that will suit their ability and goals based on logistics and distances.
There are hundreds of events in the UK every year so lots of opportunity to compete. KTC athletes take part in events locally, nationally and internationally. Sign up for almost any triathlon or individual event and you will probably find someone else from KTC on the start list. Generally speaking, there is one major event every year that people sign up for and that becomes the club event – in the past it has been Ironman Bolton and in 2023 we have a group travelling to Ironman 70.3 Mallorca. In addition, KTC had a massive attendance at the team triathlon at Cholmondeley Caste Team Triathlon in 2022 where more than 60 KTC members took part in teams of four.
Local triathlons – Wilmslow, Boundary, Salford
National triathlons – Ironman Bolton, Wales, Stafford 70.3
International triathlons – Ironman Mallorca, Barcelona
This also goes for individual cycling swimming and running events. Recently KTC members have taken part in:
Running Events – Great North Run, Warrington Way
Local Cycling team time trials
Cycling – Fred Whitton ride, Tour of the Peak, Manchester 100
Ullswater and Windermere end to end swims, The Great North Swim
What is a triathlon?
A triathlon involves various distances of swimming, cycling and running depending upon the classification of the race. Triathlons can be an Olympic (or Standard) distance (1500m swim/40k bike/10k run), Sprint distance triathlon (750m swim/20k bike/5k run) and a Super Sprint distance triathlon (400m swim/10k bike/2.5k run).
There are also 2 long distance triathlons, generally known as an Ironman (3.8k swim/112 mile bike/26.2 mile run) and a half Ironman 70.3 (1.9k swim/56 mile bike/13.1 mile run. Some of these distances can vary slightly from race to race to suit the course.
