  1. How did you get into coaching triathlon?

I’d been taking part in triathlon across a range of distances for a number of years and I really enjoyed the process of seeing myself and others develop as a triathletes, through attending the coached Knutsford Tri Club sessions and picking up on the coaches’ pointers and listening to their guidance.

So, in late 2018, I signed up for a BTF Level 1 coaching course to see if I enjoyed coaching, and as it turns out I did and still do.  The coaching journey continues…..

  1. What is your coaching philosophy?

I’ve always found that if I am having a good time, can have a laugh at myself and with others, that, I am more engaged and I am more likely to perform better.

And so, I like to keep my coaching sessions fun and engaging, but at the same time be rewarding and conducive to developing those that attend the sessions in a positive way.

And not just in the physical sense, I’m a big believer in the positivity exercise can and does have on people’s mental health.

  1. Which aspect of coaching do you enjoy the most?

I really enjoy seeing athletes turn up to a session, frustrated/ stressed after a long day at work, commit to the session and smile as they are leaving, knowing that they have given their all and are feeling better for it.  What’s not to like about making positive change on someone’s life.

  1. Have you got a coaching highlight?

There’s no one coaching highlight. I genuinely enjoy seeing athletes turn up each week, commit to a session and enjoy it.

  1. What do you do outside of KTC?

I am first and foremost a husband and a father to a little girl who is growing up far too quickly.   For work, I am a Civil Engineer and have been part of and lead multi disciplinary d3sign teams delivering a wide range of civil engineering projects, which keeps me busy especially when we cause a few traffic jams and make the news!

  1. Tell us something interesting/ unusual about you?

I am carrot throwing champion…Yes, your read that correctly, a Carrot throwing champion!!  Come down to a session and ask me about it!!
