1. How did you get into Triathlon?
I used to swim competitively when I was younger and have always done running. I used to do modern biathlon and triathlon (a one day event involving running, swimming and airpistol shooting; but not continuously). I had talked about doing a ‘proper’ triathlon for ages and finally decided to do one to try to get back into shape after having a baby. I naively thought I’d be o.k, coming from a running and swimming background, and didn’t realise that it’s the bike that makes all the difference!!

2. What training do you enjoy and what do you hate?
I enjoy most training as I’m a bit addicted to exercise but definitely enjoy the swimming and running more than cycling (which up until about a month ago I utterly despised-mainly cause of the awful winter weather!)

3. Give us an insight into your day dreams when you are out training on your own?
I usually day dream about all the chocolate and other naughty food I can eat guilt free when I’m finished!!

4. Give us one top training tip?
Listen to your body-don’t push through those little niggles until they become something big enough to stop you training and competing. Without wanting this to sound like a plug –I’m a great believer in having a regular sports massage to keep injuries at bay and keep everything ticking over!

5. Talk us through your best and worst tri events to date?
Well I’ve only done 4 sprint triathlons (3 in September/October last year and 1 this season) so I haven’t got loads to chose from. But probably the best was Northwich last week, as I finished 5th in the ladies, and felt quite good most of the way round. The worst was probably my firstone in September last
year. I had gastric flu all the week before and probably shouldn’t have even contemplated doing it but I stupidly did! I was really scared all the way round that I’d collapse from dehydration so I had to take it really easy. The swim was in a brine pool and I swallowed about 3 gallons of horrible salty water. Then I had a nightmare in transition and struggled to unrack my bike. And to top it all I was on a heavy hybrid bike for the cycle leg, meaning I did the worlds slowest bike time! (The run bit wasn’t too bad!)

6. If you were doing (or thinking of doing) a triathlon for the first time, which one piece of advice would you give?
Join Knutsford Tri Club!! And practise transitions!

7. What’s your ultimate triathlon dream (e.g. win a race, complete an Ironman)?
I would love to win a race (in the women obviously) but think I’ve got a way to go!

8. What’s your favourite piece of tri kit/gadget that you own?
I love my Knutsford tri suit!! In fact I seem to have acquired a rather large collection of trisuits over the past 8 months! I don’t have any other fancy kit really-I’m hoping that when I do get some for my bike (shoes/pedals, tri bars, etc) that it’ll instantly knock minutes off my time (anything to avoid actually
having to get on my bike to improve!)!!

9. What’s your post race indulgence (food and drink)?
A ‘snickers sandwich’ (nutella and peanut butter sandwich warmed in the microwave for 10 seconds so it it melts –mmm delicious!!). And usually a few glasses of bubbly!!

10. Finally, who from KTC would you most like to pip on the finish line?
Well I wouldn’t like to pip anyone, I’d like to beat them hands down, haha! Jeff Fidler seems to be on fire at the moment and if I’d’ pipped’ him in Northwich last week I think I would’ve been close to winning the womens race, so I’ll say Jeff! Plus he’d probably say something amusing as I sprinted past him which would ease the pain of those last few metres over the line!
